Capture the flag is a recognised paintball game throughout 26 countries.

Each team gathers at their own flag station and on the sounding of the referee’s whistle play begins. Through teamwork players must capture the opposition’s flag and return it to their own flag station to win the game. There are a number of different scenarios, and well-earned rest breaks are taken in the safety area between games.

EQUIPMENT
Paint guns used are basically air guns powered by C02 gas which propel a paintball that is 17mm in diameter with a thin gelatine case, filled with a bio-degradable, water soluble vegetable dye. The paintball is propelled at a velocity of 90 metres per second and break on impact leaving a temporary paint splotch on the player.

Speed of the paintball reduces dramatically after leaving the barrel and loses all impact over a distance of 60 metres.

Approved safety goggles and face masks are supplied and must be worn at all times on or near the filed during play.

CORPORATE SKIRMISH

As the 90s get off to a roaring poor start economically, in most areas of the country, executive stress levels have gone through the roof,. Executives are quite commonly the most over stressed employees of a company being responsible for not only their own jobs and workload but also that of those below them, and this, along with long hours and the demand for hight performance on the job, has created an especially dangerous health environment for those who burn the midnight oil to get ahead.

Stress is the number one cause of serious health problems among professionals. Heart attack, stroke, nervous breakdowns. All of them can be the direct result of too much stress, either at home or more commonly at the work place.

Large corporations have for years tried to find methods, other than early retirement, to help reduce the stress felt by their executives and employees.

Many corporations have encouraged executives to join fitness clubs, golf clubs, and other associations or groups where their staff could physically ‘work out’ their frustrations.

Research has found that physical exertion was a far better means of relieving stress than simply going home to ‘relax’ as a couch potato.

While the couch potato method of relaxation as stress relief seemed totally harmless it was found to contribute even more to the likelihood of heart attack and stroke. Without some sort of fitness plan and regular physical exertion our bodies simply cannot tolerate the high levels of stress found in today’s business world.

So why would a corporation promote physical fitness to it's employees? Well, for its own gain of course!

Where employees are fit and healthy both in body and mind, they are able to work faster, longer, harder and with less time lost to illness such as flues or colds.

But why a company promotes physical activity to reduce stress is far less important than the fact that the employee also greatly benefits as well.

So what does any of this have to do with Skirmish?
Well, when it comes to stress relief, Skirmish performs corporate magic!

WHY SKIRMISH?

Corporations and businesses began to use Skirmish as a stress relief tool almost as soon as the game started to become popular. Rather than go for a round of golf with the boys after a business training session, more and more managers found themselves suited up in camo and carrying a paintball gun in one hand.

Skirmish does far more for an executive than getting him or her to flex some muscles, as does a health spa or fitness club. There is also the exercise of the mind in regards to planning, tactics and survival.

On a group level Skirmish promotes coordination between people and team building. "The team that plays together, stays together.”

As a result of this ‘team building’ concept more and more companies began to expand their forays on the field to more than just their executives and management.

By bringing people together from all departments and levels of a company and promoting them to work together to achieve common goals recreationally, it became far easier for upper management to work with other departments on a workable basis as well.
